Paul Hollywood, tasty outside and in!

April 12, 2013

I’m a bit behind on writing this one. But it was quite an exciting day and so I am finally getting round to sharing it!

Back in April a friend & I visited Cake International at ExCel in London. If you are not familiar with Cake International it is a Sugarcraft, Cake Decorating & Baking Show. It is jam packed with stands selling supplies, lots of demos, workshops and displays. Oh and also competitions where you can enter your cakes and win awards. I am hoping one day they will have a Cake Pop category and then I will be sure to enter!

I knew Paul Hollywood was going to be there at the demo theatre so I went along with a Paul Hollywood Cake Pop hoping to meet him and present him with himself, as you do. More of that later! First up watching Great British Bake Off duo Paul Hollywood & Mary Berry making bread in the Bakery Theatre. So many people, you have to get there very early if you want front row seats! After they had finished, I thought huh this would be a good time to catch Paul, but no, he ran off out of a side door!

So we headed to the competition entry area to view all the amazing cakes, sugarcraft and cookies. I could have looked at them all day, just so many fantastic entries. I took a few photos, but it was so busy it was difficult to view plus they were currently being judged.

You could very easily spend a lot of money here and get very heavily laden with supplies! So many stands! Here on the left Baker & Maker’s stand packed with lots of cakey bakey goodies. Also on the right The Baker Shop where you can stock up on every possible colour of sprinkles.

Delicious looking fudge of unusual flavours and a stand with everything made out of marzipan.

After visiting pretty much every stand we headed back to the competition area to see how the judging was going. Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry were there viewing all the cakes. Ah! Now was a perfect time! I called Paul over and asked him if he’d seen my Paul Hollywood Cake Pop (as I had previously been tweeting about it). He said he had! I said that this one was for him and he was very chuffed to say the least.

He asked if he could eat it (of course he could), and he turned to Mary Berry to show her. She was most impressed and laughed as Paul bit the top of his head off. Paul then kindly gave Mary a bite too and she said and I quote “that is actually very tasty!”. So, there it is, if anyone is in doubt of the tastiness of Definitely Cake Cake Pops be rest assured Mary Berry the Queen of Cakes very much approves! Paul came back over to me and went on to ask how I made it and was very interested in its creation. A whole heartedly very nice guy.

I then went home very happy.
